Rain Launches Non-Custodial Wallets for Payment Apps

Rain now offers non-custodial wallets on multiple chains for partners building payment apps. The wallet connects to Rain's cards, virtual accounts, fiat funding and withdrawals, rewards and payouts. Rain describes card spending at 175M merchants and sending money in 50+ currencies as capabilities of the wider stack.

Partners can offer incoming money that lands as stablecoins, then let users spend or send it to a bank account in local currency from the same wallet. They can also keep an existing wallet and connect it to Rain's other services; adopting the new Rain wallet is not mandatory.

This reduces the number of separate integrations a payment app has to assemble. It does not mean every existing Rain-powered card has already added all these routes. The partner still has to expose the integration in its own product, so the capabilities of an issuer's stack and those available in a particular card app can differ.

Custodial wallets and additional ways to earn on balances are planned by the end of 2026. Those planned options should not be treated as features of the non-custodial wallets already available. Rain has not provided a single end-user fee or eligibility schedule covering every partner app.

For app builders, the choice is whether to use Rain's wallet or retain an existing wallet alongside its payment services. For cardholders, check which funding and payout routes their own app actually offers, who controls the wallet, and the quote for the intended transfer. The real-time card funding beta is a separate feature with its own supported assets.
