Plasma One 20% Dyson Cashback Excludes Third-Party Retailers
Plasma One is running a 20% cashback boost on Dyson purchases from 00:00 UTC on 8 September to 23:59:59 UTC on 22 September 2026. The supplemental terms are unusually specific about which transactions count, and most of the conditions decide the outcome before the rate ever applies.
The ceiling comes first. Boosted cashback is capped at 100 USD per Card Account for the whole period, which at 20% corresponds to 500 USD of qualifying purchases. There is no minimum spend and no per-transaction cap, so a single 500 USD purchase reaches the cap as cleanly as five smaller ones. All cards under one account share that cap, and each person can benefit once regardless of how many accounts, cards or devices are involved. Where one transaction would cross the cap, the boost applies up to 100 USD and the base rate covers the rest.
Only a Dyson merchant descriptor qualifies, not a Dyson product
Qualifying purchases are those made directly from Dyson: dyson.com storefronts and Dyson-operated retail and demonstration stores, settled to a merchant descriptor Plasma recognises as Dyson. Buying the same machine from an authorised retailer, a marketplace seller, a department store, an electronics or home goods chain, a warehouse club, or through any third-party ordering, delivery or checkout service earns nothing extra.
Plasma matches on merchant descriptor and card network data, and states that merchant category codes are not determinative because the codes Dyson settles under are shared with many other merchants. That is the opposite of how category cashback usually works, and it cuts both ways: a merchant sitting under the right MCC does not qualify, and Plasma is under no obligation to publish which descriptors do.
A mixed basket fails entirely rather than partially. Plasma cannot see the contents of a transaction at card level, so an order containing a Dyson machine alongside anything else, or one that settles to a non-Dyson descriptor, earns no boosted cashback on any part of it.
The boost replaces the base rate rather than adding to it
Boosted cashback applies in place of the base and category rate that would otherwise apply to the same transaction. The gain over doing nothing is therefore 20% minus the tier rate, not 20%, and once the 100 USD cap is hit or the period ends, the tier rate resumes. Separately, boosted cashback does not count toward the monthly tier cap, while Dyson spend still counts toward the monthly qualifying spend that sets the band for other transactions.
Eligibility is targeted rather than universal. The boost exists for a cardholder only if it is displayed in the Plasma One application during the period, and the rate, cap and period shown there override the published terms. If it is not displayed, nothing accrues, however the purchase is made.
Timing is decided by authorisation rather than by the order date. The transaction has to be authorised inside the window and subsequently captured. An order placed during the window that authorises afterwards — a pre-order, a backorder, a deposit, an instalment arrangement — earns nothing, and an order placed before the window does not qualify because it ships or charges during it.
A 45-day hold sits over a category people return
Boosted cashback is held for 45 days after settlement and is not earned until that hold expires and Plasma completes its review. A return, refund, reversal, cancellation, chargeback or price adjustment during those 45 days voids the accrual in whole or in part and nets against the pending balance. Appliances are a returnable category with retailer return windows measured in weeks, so the reward remains contingent well past the point the purchase feels settled.
The payout is in XPL. The amount accrues in US dollars but is paid in a token whose value can move between the day of purchase and the day it lands, roughly six weeks later at the earliest.
That leaves a narrow fit: a cardholder who is shown the offer, was already going to buy from Dyson directly inside the window, expects to keep the machine, and is spending near 500 USD. Anyone comparing retailer prices, buying through a marketplace, or planning to decide after unboxing is better served treating the boost as absent, because in each of those cases it is.
