Lava Adds MXN SPEI Deposits to Its USD Card Balance
Lava now accepts Mexican peso deposits by SPEI bank transfer. The minimum is 50 MXN, with no transfer fee and deposits usually arriving within seconds, 24/7. In the app's dollar section, choose bank transfer and MXN, then use the displayed CLABE. The pesos are converted into the shared USD balance used for Lava Card spending and other account functions.
That conversion matters when the eventual purchase is also in pesos. Funding changes MXN into USD first; paying a Mexican merchant in MXN then uses Visa's currency conversion from the dollar balance. Lava adds no foreign-currency fee or spread to Visa's rate, but the two conversion moments still exist. No transfer fee does not mean the original peso value is preserved through the whole route.
SPEI is a route into a dollar account, not a peso account: Lava currently lists bank withdrawals only in USD and EUR, so pesos sent in cannot go back out to a Mexican bank as pesos. Lava has not published the rate or spread applied when pesos are converted into the USD balance; the dollar amount credited for a first 50 MXN transfer shows the effective rate before a larger deposit. For spending in dollars or another foreign currency, that deposit conversion is the only one; for paying Mexican merchants in pesos, every peso deposited is converted twice.
