Rain powers Gokubu Visa card with GKU rewards
Rain is providing stablecoin card infrastructure for Gokubu, one of the first projects in BitGo Labs. The product combines a Visa card issued by Rain with an AI spending assistant, bringing card payments and spending insights into the same service.
Gokubu offers a free Basic plan and a paid Premium plan. Both reward eligible spending in GKU, with different rates and a monthly spending threshold on the higher Premium rate:
- Basic is free and earns 2% GKU on eligible spending.
- Premium costs $9.99 per month and earns 6% GKU on the first $2,000 of eligible spending each month. Eligible spending beyond that threshold earns 2% GKU.
GKU can be used for AI queries and redemptions within the Gokubu ecosystem. Gokubu describes GKU as reward points with no cash value outside its ecosystem unless converted. These reward percentages therefore describe GKU rewards, not cash paid in USD.
Premium pays 4 percentage points more than Basic on up to $2,000 of eligible spending a month. Counting GKU at the dollar value it is credited at, the $9.99 fee is covered once eligible spending passes about $250 a month. Gokubu does not publish a fixed cash value for GKU, so that break-even point moves with what GKU can actually be redeemed for.
Gokubu offers iOS and Android downloads; its physical card is coming soon.
