ether.fi Launches ether.fi USD for Card and Account Balances

ether.fi has introduced ether.fi USD, its own stablecoin designed to provide a shared native dollar across ether.fi Cash, vaults, borrowing, trading and transfers. ether.fi says more than $300M in stablecoins on the platform had been sitting idle.

Ethena Whitelabel provides end-to-end operations for reserves, minting, redemption, compliance and business verification. ether.fi chooses the reserve portfolio. This separates the choice of assets backing ether.fi USD from the infrastructure that operates the stablecoin.

The intended use includes dollars between card purchases, balances not allocated to vaults and USDC deposited through top-ups. ether.fi describes the design as putting those otherwise idle balances to work. Personal yield rates and the timing of availability to cardholders have not been specified.

For a cardholder, the change is in what backs the balance. USDC is backed by Circle’s reserves, while ether.fi USD is backed by a reserve mix that ether.fi selects according to its own risk preferences. ether.fi has not said whether card balances will be converted automatically or only by opting in.
