Virtual vs Physical Crypto Cards: Which One Do You Need?

Most crypto card programs now offer virtual, physical, or both. The right choice depends on where and how you actually spend.

The case for virtual

Virtual cards are issued in minutes, usually free, and slot straight into Apple Pay or Google Pay. For online purchases and in-store contactless payments they cover almost everything, and disposable card numbers add a safety layer for risky merchants.

The case for physical

A physical card is still the only way to withdraw cash at ATMs, and it works at terminals without contactless support or where phone payments are impractical. Expect an issuance fee, shipping time of one to three weeks, and sometimes a higher program tier.

The practical answer

Start virtual: it is free and instant, and for most people it covers 95% of spending. Add the physical card only if you regularly need ATM cash or travel to regions where contactless coverage is thin. Cards labeled 'Both' in our database let you do exactly that on one account.
