RedotPay Scan to Pay Reaches Brazil, Colombia and Peru
RedotPay says Scan to Pay now works at local merchants in Brazil, Colombia and Peru: scan the merchant's QR code in the app and settle it from a stablecoin balance.
The part worth separating out is which rails this runs on. Scan to Pay uses the local QR network, the same one local banks and e-wallets connect to, rather than the Visa acceptance that the RedotPay Card rides on. Those are two different acceptance footprints, and neither one predicts the other. A stall that takes a national QR code may not take a card at all, and a shop with a card terminal may have no QR on the counter.
That distinction matters because QR expansion is easy to read as card expansion. Issuing a card into a country and supporting a country's QR scheme are separate permissions with separate requirements, and one arriving says nothing about the other.
RedotPay states that the exchange rate and any fees appear before the payment is confirmed, and that no pre-conversion is needed, so the balance converts as part of the payment rather than in a separate step beforehand. For someone holding stablecoins in a market where QR is the default way to pay, that removes the usual detour of cashing out into local currency and waiting for it to land somewhere spendable.
Two things are not settled by the announcement. Coverage inside each country is whatever the national QR scheme covers, not a merchant list RedotPay maintains, so acceptance follows the local network rather than anything specific to this app. And the Scan to Pay product page describes acceptance, speed and up-front pricing without saying whether these payments earn what card spending earns — a question worth checking in the app before assuming rewards carry over.
The fit is narrow and clear. Someone living in Brazil, Colombia or Peru, holding stablecoins, paying by QR most days, gets a shorter path from balance to purchase. Someone reading this as a signal that the card itself now works better in those markets is answering a different question, and the announcement does not touch it.
