Cash With Krak Card: What Free ATM Withdrawals Really Mean

Krak lists ATM withdrawals at zero from its side. That is the issuer's line, and it is only one of the charges that can appear on a cash withdrawal.

The three that remain

The machine's operator can charge its own fee, disclosed on screen before you confirm. Independent ATMs in tourist areas do this routinely; bank-operated machines usually do not.

The screen may also offer to convert into your home currency. That is dynamic currency conversion, priced by the operator rather than by Mastercard, and it is reliably worse. Decline it and take the local currency.

Finally, if the cash comes from a crypto balance rather than a fiat one, the conversion spread applies exactly as it would on a purchase.

Cash withdrawal is the least rewarding way to use the card

Withdrawals do not earn cashback either, so a cash withdrawal is the least rewarding way to use the card and, if you get all three charges, one of the more expensive.

Take out larger amounts less often, decline the on-screen conversion, prefer bank machines, and hold a fiat balance if you withdraw regularly.

Tracked values are on the Krak Card page.
