Ether.fi Cash Subscription Cashback Caps at $100 of Spend

Ether.fi has switched on category cashback for the Ether.fi Cash Card, letting members pick categories that match how they spend. The headline rate is 30% on subscription services, which is high enough to be worth checking what it applies to.

Three tiers carry the benefit. Luxe pays 10% on AI, streaming, food and similar services, capped at $10 a month. Pinnacle pays 20%, capped at $20 a month. VIP pays 30%, capped at $30 a month. Core members do not get the category at all.

Every tier tops out at the same $100 of monthly spend

Divide each cap by its rate and the three tiers produce an identical number. Ten dollars at 10% is $100. Twenty dollars at 20% is $100. Thirty dollars at 30% is $100. The rate triples from Luxe to VIP and the qualifying base does not move.

That changes what the upper tiers are buying. A higher tier does not let more subscription spending earn the boosted rate; it pays more on the same first $100 each month. Someone running $300 a month through AI tools, streaming and delivery apps reaches the ceiling at every tier, and the difference between Luxe and VIP on that spending is $20 a month, or $240 a year.

Set that against the cost of the tiers. Luxe runs $199 a year as a fast track, or 30,000 ETHFI staked, or $15,000 deposited into a liquid vault. Pinnacle is $999 a year, 150,000 ETHFI, or $100,000 deposited. VIP has no paid route at all and requires 500,000 ETHFI or $500,000 in Liquid. The subscription category does not carry a Pinnacle upgrade on its own, and the gap between it and Luxe is $10 a month against an $800 difference in annual fee.

Travel sits on a separate line at the same rate for everyone

Ether.fi grouped travel with AI, food delivery and streaming when describing the new categories, but travel is listed as its own benefit at 5% through Ether.fi Travel, and that 5% is identical across Core, Luxe, Pinnacle and VIP. It is not part of the 10/20/30 ladder, and picking a membership for travel cashback specifically gets nothing extra.

The everyday rate is a third line again. Core, Luxe and Pinnacle all pay 3%, differing only in the monthly ceiling: $2,000 of spend for Core, $10,000 for Luxe, $50,000 for Pinnacle. VIP is the only tier that lifts the base rate, to 4%.

Cashback now needs $5 before it can be claimed

Ether.fi added two conditions alongside the categories: a $5 minimum before rewards can be claimed, and a seven-day clearing period, both described as measures against accounts farming the program. At the Luxe rate, $5 is half a month of the category cap, so a light month can leave a balance sitting unclaimable until the next one tops it up.

Upgrades are now immediate, through staking ETHFI, depositing into Liquid, or paying for the year. The three routes cost very different things despite landing on the same tier, and the cashback line is the part least likely to justify the gap on its own.
