Ether.fi Cash Card records matter more than expected
Crypto card users talk about rewards. They should probably talk more about records.
Ether.fi Cash Card combines normal card spending with crypto-backed account activity. That means a month can include purchases, merchant refunds, cashback, borrowing, repayment, collateral movement and currency conversion. If the user waits until tax season or a disputed charge to understand it, the story is already too tangled.
The habit worth keeping is simple and mildly annoying: once a week, compare the app view with your own notes.
- Purchases that are still pending
- Refunds that have not landed yet
- Rewards that were earned but not counted as cash
- Repayments or collateral changes
- Fees that are easy to miss because they are small
The point is not to build a personal accounting department. It is to notice when the card's version of the month differs from yours.
A crypto-backed statement does not tell the whole story
With a bank debit card, most people can reconstruct the month from one statement. With a crypto-backed card, the statement may not tell the whole story you care about. You may also want to know which asset funded the behavior, whether a repayment changed exposure, and whether a reward is actually worth its face value.
The user who keeps basic records will have fewer surprises. Not zero surprises. Fewer. That is enough.
Keep the system ugly if needed. A spreadsheet, a notes app, a monthly text file. The format matters less than the habit. Future you will not care whether the record was elegant. Future you will care whether it exists.
