Ether.fi Cash now looks more like a crypto neobank

Ether.fi says the next generation of its crypto neobank is live. The card angle is the part that matters here: Cash is no longer just presented as a separate crypto-backed card, but as one piece of a wider app for earning, borrowing, trading and spending.

That is useful, but it also makes the decision less clean. A better app does not remove the need to understand how the card is funded.

The card is easier to reach

The public Cash page still frames the product around real-world spending: virtual and physical Visa cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, up to 3% cashback, and spending across Visa merchants. Ether.fi's help center also explains that cashback is tiered by monthly spend and paid in USDC, with excluded transaction types and MCCs still mattering.

The new app direction matters because those features sit closer to the rest of the account. If you already use ether.fi for balances, borrowing or stablecoin activity, the card becomes less of a separate checkout tool and more of an account extension.

The boring checks still matter

The 3% headline is not enough to evaluate this on. Cashback steps down after monthly bands, EUR transactions have their own adjusted rates, and some transaction categories do not earn rewards. Ether.fi also documents zero FX markup for EUR purchases, but that does not make every travel payment frictionless; dynamic currency conversion and merchant currency choices can still change the result.

The better question is whether your normal spending fits the card's mechanics:

  • you are comfortable with crypto-backed credit
  • you understand which purchases earn cashback
  • you can track repayments, refunds and collateral movement
  • the card is actually available in your country

The read

This is a good direction for Ether.fi Cash Card users who already want one app for crypto balances and everyday payments. It still deserves testing like a financial product, not like a wallet feature: start with a small purchase, check the settlement record, check the cashback, then decide whether it deserves more of your monthly spend.
